Press release
Martin Smith was born and bred in London, and spent twenty five years in corporate life in the city before he began photographing it a decade ago. Since then in more than five hundred shoots and ten thousand hours of work he has captured London during one of its most dynamic periods when skylines have been ever changing.
In September 2018 Martin achieved fellowship of the Master Photographers Association for his “Colours of London” portfolio. As its name suggests, the collection - curated from a ten year long project - features a series of highly colourful images of the UK capital, many shot at night.
The Master Photographers Association has been qualifying the best photographers for over 65 years. To become a fellow, a photographer must demonstrate a distinctive style, with individual flair and originality, and excellence of craftsmanship. Martin joins a prestigious group of just 45 active fellows worldwide. It is the first time ever that a fellowship award has been based on a series of London images.
“You are one of only a few special photographers, the creme de la creme of the industry who have their own unique style that many try to copy but few achieve.” Ray Lowe, Chairman, Master Photographers Association.
Martin was thrilled with the award. “My work has received excellent reviews from customers and the press for some time. But it’s hugely satisfying to be recognised by the industry. It is fitting that the award should be based on work in my home city and I was glad to see my passion for London shone through.”
The "Colours of London" portfolio is featured below. All images are available for purchase as framed or unframed prints as well as canvases and acrylic panels.
